Graduate Diploma in Emergency Health (MICA Paramedic)

This industry-funded course is offered by the Centre for Ambulance and Paramedic Studies. Applicants must be qualified Victorian Ambulance Paramedics currently employed by an ambulance service, with a minimum of two years post-bachelor/diploma qualification (or equivalent) clinical experience who have undergone joint selection with Monash University and either Metropolitan Ambulance Service or Rural Ambulance Victoria.

Course structure

This course is comprised of the following core units:

• PAR4301 Theoretical foundations of MICA paramedic practice
• PAR4302 MICA paramedic management of emergency cardiac conditions
• PAR4303 MICA paramedic management of emergency trauma and environmental conditions
• PAR4304 MICA paramedic management of emergency medical conditions and abnormal behaviour
• PAR4305 MICA paramedic management of paediatric and obstetric patients
• PAR4306 MICA paramedic practice in an integrated emergency medical system
• PAR4307 MICA paramedic clinical practicum

Assessment

Assessments include written assignments, examinations, student presentations and objective structured clinical examinations.
