Graduate Certificate in Risk Management

Course code: 3151 + Caulfield campus + Normally one year part-time + Course director: Mr Michael Vincent + Total credit points required: 24 + Attendance not required

General course information

The objective of this program is to provide an integrated introductory course of studies in risk management for non-graduates who have appropriate business experience. On completion of the certificate, successful candidates should have an understanding and appreciation of fundamental risk management techniques, practical and analytical skills in the approach to risk management and related areas and an understanding of the role and processes involved in risk management and its relationship with the overall management of an organisation.

Special requirements

Students should have access to a Pentium 2 computer (or at a minimum, a Pentium 166 with Windows 95 or later), as a portion of the learning is via interactive tutorial disks. Students undertaking business statistics will need to have access to an IBM-compatible computer and the spreadsheet package Excel (version 97 or above).

Attendance

Students have the option of attending three weekend sessions per unit per semester.

Course structure

Students are expected to undertake two units per semester and pass the equivalent of four units.

Second semester

Professional recognition

This course satisfies (in the area of risk management) the educational requirements for the Australian Institute of Risk Management, and students can be admitted to membership as an associate fellow.

Articulation

Completion of the Graduate Certificate in Risk Management will allow direct entry into higher graduate degrees in the risk management discipline.
