Philosophy of Religion (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit will concentrate on assessment of the claim that the world was created by one or more deities. Traditional arguments for and against the existence of deities-such as ontological arguments, cosmological arguments, design arguments, moral arguments, arguments from miracles, arguments from revelation, arguments from scripture, arguments from religious experience, arguments from evil, Pascal's wager, arguments from the incompatibility of divine attributes, arguments from the will to believe, and so on-will be considered. www.arts.monash.edu.au/phil/undergraduate/

Assessment: Two essays (1800 words each): 40% each + Examination (1 hour): 20% + One essay may optionally be replaced by a 2 hour examination

Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 lecture and 1 tutorial) per week
