Professional issues in paramedic practice (6 points)

Synopsis: This subject provides the student with the opportunity to demonstrate graduate level competencies in communication skills, computer skills, accessing information resources, critical appraisal, reflective practice and report writing. Clinical problem solving, decision making and appraisal in patient care will be reviewed and underpinned with relevant anatomy, physiology and pharmacology. The concept of quality management and clinical audit will be reviewed and used to promote improvement in practice and the current development in the Victorian Ambulance Services' information systems, clinical data bases and communication centre will be explored from clinical and operation perspectives.

Assessment: Assessment based on current clinical practice guidelines: 30% + Assignments: 25% + Small group activity and class participation: 15% + Computer skills work sheet: 10% + Access information resources work sheet: 10% + Communications centre Work sheet: 10% + Practical skills: Pass/Fail + Objective structure clinical examination: Pass/Fail
