Synopsis: The nature of counselling and the various models of counselling; development of self awareness; communication as a component of counselling; the structure of counselling; the client/worker relationship; active listening; goal setting and planned intervention; various specialised areas of counselling and self management.

Assessment: Computer conferencing activities: 50% + Essay: 50% + mandatory satisfactory counselling skills assessment (assessed by students respective mentor)
