MMS1601Data communications and operating systems (6 points)(IT) Leader: Matt Butler
Offered: Synopsis: The unit introduces the enabling technologies that support multimedia development and implementation, as well as business management and operations. Topics include the elements of computer hardware, operating systems, software, networks, the Internet, telecommunications and other supporting technologies and infrastructures used for multimedia delivery, business operations, management and commercial activity. Students are introduced to digital concepts, protocols, and systems and transactional security concepts, and put these to practice with a mixture of lab exercises and case study. Assessment: Three assignments: 40% Examination: 60% (3 hours) Contact Hours: 2 hours lecture and 2 hours tutorial per week, 8 hours per week self-directed study.
