Politics of maternity services (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit will examine a broad range of contemporary issues and trends that impact on women within the context of childbearing and midwifery practice. The focus will be on analysis of the socio-political-cultural frameworks that inform the development and practice of midwifery. The scope and provision of midwifery practice in Australia from a legal, ethical, government and service perspective will be examined. The subject will examine global perspectives in the development and elivery of midwifery services.

Assessment: Written assessments: 80% + Presentation: 20%

Contact Hours: Four (4) hours off campus workload including a variety of online lectures, seminars, interactive exercises and guided study activities each week for 13 weeks. One (1) hour tutorial on campus per week per week for 13 weeks. Seven (7) hours self directed study time per week for 13 weeks.
