Synopsis: A program of lectures and tutorials during semester 1 enables students to develop clinical skills and gain an understanding of the general principles of clinical psychiatry and provides a structure for approaching psychiatric assessment and management using case histories. This extended in semester 2 with further seminars and a 4 week attachment to a clinical unit during which students are involved in seminars, patient admission and clerking, bedside clinical tutorials and direct observation of clinicians at work. This provides students with an opportunity to relate general principles to clinical practice in an integrated manner.
