Payment systems and electronic banking law (6 points)

Synopsis: This subject covers a range of electronic funds tranfers including internet banking, EFTPOS, smart cards and high value funds transfers eg CHAPS and SWIFT. It deals with legal issues relating to payment and non-payment 9eg error and fraud) breach of privacy. The subject will draw on comparative materials from the US and Europe to enable students to formulate policy in the Australian context. Background on technical issues such as system design and cryptography will be provided.

Assessment: Research paper (3500 words): 50% + Final examination (1.5 hours): 50%
