Synopsis: Fundamental painting skills for students majoring in another area. Set projects foster the acquisition of basic skills and a knowledge of traditional painting techniques. Topics include painting in oils and acrylics, stretcher and ground preparation. Projects concentrate on composition design, proportion, rhythm, form, space, colour analysis and preparation and use of materials. Theoretical concerns of the painting tradition will be discussed and analysed.

Assessment: Folio: 100%

Contact Hours: 4 studio hours and 8 independent study hours per week

Prerequisites: FNA1303 or equivalent

Prohibitions: Painting studio majors
