EDF6238Advanced practicum in language teaching: TESOL (12 points)(EDU) Leader: Dr M-T Jensen
Offered: Synopsis: (For local students only): Knowledge and skills required to function as an effective TESOL teacher. Links between second language education theory and classroom practice. It includes a classroom component of 13 weekly sessions, including the equivalent of 3 days of micro-teaching and focussed observation, and a placement of at least 17 days in a language centre or other institutional setting. The placement will consist of a sequence of at least 3 days per week. (International students only: Same as above, but will not undertake the 22 day placement). Assessment: (Local Students): Focussed observations 10% + preparation of model lessons for micro-teaching 20% + case study of an ESOL learner 25% + successful completion of 22 day placement including practicum folio 45% + (For International Students): Focussed observations 10% + preparation of model lessons for micro-teaching 20% + case study of an ESOL learner 25% + unit of work for an ESOL class 45%.
