Theory and practice of community development (12 points)

Synopsis: The unit provides a significant learning experience for students in using the principles, skills and strategies of collaborative education in working with a community group to advance the development of community sustainability. Students will work with a group of interested community members where they will facilitate the process of finding a language and a voice to engage collaboratively, and where the group will engage with determining the course of their own future as a community. The unit provides a framework and supervised practice, and requires students to reflect on the integration between theory and practice and their own capacities as a learning facilitator.

Assessment: 1. Planning Proposal to document strategies, own roles, and challenges (2000 words): 33% + 2. Assignment to demonstrate understanding of two stages of group development following establishment through discussion of the collaborative progress of the group as well as evaluation of the process and of changes occurring in personal and community development. (Equivalent to 4000 words): 67%.
