Perspectives of Early Childhood Education (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit will examine the theories of Froebel, Steiner, Montessori, McMillan, Isaacs and others and the influences, direct and indirect, they exert on early childhood education today. In addition, students will examine the development of early childhood services in Australia with reference to the theories and the societal factors which have shaped them. Philosophical approaches such as Reggio Emilia, play-based learning and developmentally appropriate practices will also be considered

Assessment: Task 1: Students will be required to undertake research and class seminar with an accompanying report (2200) words: 45%. Task 2: An essay (2800 words): 55%.
