Play and Pedagogy (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit aims to introduce students to the links between the domains of child development and the importance of play as a pedagogical construct. A broad range of theorists, such as Montessori, Steiner, Froebel etc., as well as particular approaches, such as that employed by Reggio Emilia, will be analysed by students to further their understanding of these links. Particular emphasis will be given to the development of play within the broader context of child development between the ages of 0 - 5 years, and the teacher's role in supporting and extending this development.

Assessment: Task 1: A written report (1500 words) (30%). Task 2: An essay (2500 words): (50%). Task 3: Seminar presentation (1000 words): (20%).
