BUS5580Business systems project 1 (6 points)(IT) Leader: Anne Parr
Offered: Synopsis: This unit allows students to investigate a particular industry application of business systems. The investigation is done under supervision and provides a chance to examine an area not previously covered in other units or to build upon existing knowledge. Projects can include: design, development, prototyping and testing of a significant piece of software, an in-depth exploration and report on a leading edge piece of information technology, a literature review, a single or multiple-case study of real-life business problems in industry. Project topics must be approved by the supervisor and project coordinator prior to enrolment. Assessment: The type of assessment will depend upon the project type. Possible deliverables include: A working software prototype, its plan and supporting test, design and user documentation, an extensive report of the results of the investigation and/or an oral presentation. A written report as the sole deliverable for a 6 point project would be approximately 5000 words (excluding appendices) in length. Contact Hours: Students should expect to spend an average of 12 hours per week for 13 weeks on this unit. This workload is divided between meetings with the supervisor and self-initiated work.
