Trading systems and electronic (B2B) commerce (6 points)

Synopsis: Begins with an understanding of the information systems used by companies trading in goods and services. Analyses the computerisation of all standard operational systems such as purchasing, sales, invoicing etc. Automation of the exchange of business data between business partners, electronic commerce (EC), supply chains. Developments such as automatic identification, traditional electronic data interchange (EDI), an analysis of the strengths, weaknesses of extensible markup language (XML) a comparison of EDI and XML, XML syntax highlights, electronic funds transfer, and the role of standards are covered. The final topics are electronic payment systems and electronic security.

Assessment: Assignments: 30% + Examination (2 hours): 70% + Students must pass the examination in order to pass the unit.

Contact Hours: One 2-hour lecture and one 1-hour laboratory per week

Prerequisites: BUS1021 and at least 12 points from second year Business Systems units
