Health education and promotion (6 points)

Synopsis: Theories of learning, health behaviour, health education and their practical application will be studied to understand how health education programs help to prevent disease and enhance health, as well as to manage chronic illness and help improve the wellbeing of communities and organisations. Topics will include the scope of health education, models of individual and interpersonal health behaviour and group intervention models of health behaviour change. Specific models and theories and their practical application in health education programs, with particular emphasis on nutrition education, will be studied. Students will also examine program planning, management and evaluation.

Assessment: Examination: 40% + Analysis in tutorial classes: 10% + Group presentation: 20% + Essay: 30%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week (lectures and tutorials)
