Alcohol and Drug Use (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit introduces students to the broad range of drug uses, and consequent problems that may arise. The effects of alcohol and other drug use will be examined with respect to individuals, family groups, cultural groups and society. Problematic drug use and addiction will be examined, together with prevention strategies and treatment approaches. The diverse range of responses to problematic substance use will be emphasised.

Assessment: Agency visit and tutorial presentation: 40% + Test (1 hour): 20% + Essay (2000 words): 40%

Contact Hours: 2 hours per week (1-hour lecture and 1-hour tutorial for 12 weeks, one week will be devoted to agency visits)
