The following should be read in conjunction with the statement on the Bachelor of Pharmacy set out above and the Bachelor of Commerce in the Faculty of Business and Economics section.
The double-degree course of Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Commerce
requires a minimum of six years of full-time study or, for the Bachelor of
Commerce, the equivalent of two years full-time in part-time study. The
pharmacy component of the course can only be undertaken on a full-time
basis.
Students complete the Bachelor of Pharmacy in the first four years of study
following the normal study program at the Parkville campus, and then complete
the Bachelor of Commerce in the following two years at the university's Clayton
campus.
The Bachelor of Commerce is recognised as meeting academic requirements for
accounting, banking and finance professional associations, depending upon the
units completed.
Students must complete units to the value of a minimum of 294 credit points,
subject to the following conditions:
(a) 192 points must be from the Victorian College of
Pharmacy, and must satisfy the requirements for the Bachelor of Pharmacy.
(b) 102 points must be chosen from units offered by the Faculty of
Business and Economics (Clayton) and must include:
(i) completion of the following compulsory units:
(ii) completion of
a major in a discipline or field of study of the faculty. This requires
students to complete 48 points of study in a single discipline or field of
study with at least 12 points at each of second and third-year level.
Disciplines are defined by department prefixes and fields of study are those
sets of related units that may be defined in the catalogue of courses and
units.
(iii) a maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 credit points). In
order to meet this requirement, students are able to undertake the second-year
versions of the appropriate number of compulsory units.
