The general entry requirements for admission to degree courses will apply to this course. Entry is normally via VTAC and students may complete the first year of either a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Business and Commerce degree before starting the double degree. An average result of C (credit) is required in the first year of study.
Students will be selected taking into account their academic results at VCE
or equivalent, including a study score of at least 25 in English (any), and
passes in either Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics. A high level
of motivation to undertake this combined course will also be a requirement.
Mature-age students who have demonstrated high academic ability and a strong
desire to undertake this course may also be selected.
Students who have completed first year of the Bachelor of Engineering or
Bachelor of Business and Commerce or a similar course at another institution,
and have demonstrated high academic ability and high motivation, may also be
admitted to second-year programs of this combined course, generally with full
credit for appropriate first-year studies.
Alternatively, satisfactory completion of qualifications deemed to be
equivalent to the VCE such as interstate Year 12 or International
Baccalaureate, or completion of the TAFE Certificate IV or one year of an
Advanced Diploma (formerly Associate Diploma), or completion of two units with
a credit average at university level. These may be studied either on campus, by
off-campus learning or through Open Learning.
The course involves five years of full-time study or the equivalent in part- time or off-campus learning and offers specialisation in the following engineering and business areas: interdisciplinary engineering with major studies taken in civil, electrical and mechanical engineering; accounting; business law; economics; electronic commerce; management; marketing.
Students must complete a minimum of 252 credit points. The units are chosen
from a selected engineering discipline and business major with specified core
units and approved electives.
Units with a total credit value of 144 points from the Faculty of Engineering
and 108 points from the Faculty of Business and Economics, meeting the
following requirements:
(a) Completion of six compulsory units:
(b) Completion of a business major of at least 48 points,
including at least 12 points at each of second and third levels (one core unit
from part (a) may form part of the 48 points requirement).
(c) Completion of at least 48 points of business units beyond first level,
including at least 24 points at third level (the business major sequence meets
this requirement).
(d) Completion of the common first-year engineering followed by the
selection of one of the engineering streams offered within the
interdisciplinary degree.
* GSE2703 Engineering mathematical analysis is equivalent to ETW1102 Business statistics. Therefore, students who have successfully completed GSE2703 are not required to complete ETW1102 on the business side of the course.
