The Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics offers two first- year units, ETC1000 and ETC1010, both of which are compulsory for undergraduate students enrolled in the Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Economics, eight second-year units, eight third-year units and a fourth-year honours program.
Note that students cannot obtain credit for both ETC1010 and ETC2010, or for both ETC2400 and ETC2410. The unit ETC2400 provides the foundation for third-year units in econometrics, and students who plan to take a major in econometrics are strongly advised to take it. In addition, such students would find passes in first-year mathematics helpful. Students should refer to the details of the third-year units to ascertain the specific prerequisites. Other students who wish to proceed to work in economic statistics at the third-year level should take ETC2410. ETC2400 and ETC2410 cover the same material but from different perspectives. ETC2400 places more emphasis on the statistical theory which underlies econometrics, while ETC2410 takes a much more applied approach. Those interested in business modelling should take ETC2480, ETC2490 together with ETC2400 and ETC2450.
All the units listed above except ETC2010 have as a prerequisite a pass in ETC1010 or ETC2010. Further prerequisites and restrictions are prescribed in the outline of individual units.
Students enrolled for a pass degree may select one or more of the third-year units taught by the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics other than ETC3470. Note that students cannot obtain credit for both ETC3440 and ETC2410.
