The Graduate Certificate in Medical Education is currently undergoing an amendment which includes a title change to the Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education. The course structure provided below is the revised structure of the existing course. It is envisaged that the Graduate Certificate of Nursing (Education) will articulate with the Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education.
This course will be offered by the Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education. It will enable teachers from the health professions to develop their teaching, course development and supervisory skills along with a working knowledge of educational theory to underpin future practice. Participants will be expected to explore and evaluate the impact of new educational methods (including assessment and evaluation methods) and legislation on the provision of high-quality education in the health environment. They will be introduced to the design and implementation of effective educational research.
The course consists of four core six-credit-point units, which will normally be completed over a period of 18 months (three semesters). The course is offered using a combination of on and off-campus learning and flexible teaching methods. Successful completion of the course requires the study of the following core units:
Assessment includes written assignments, teaching practicals and preparation of a structured teaching portfolio.
