Graduate Diploma in Human Resources

This eight-unit course is designed for people who are working or intend to work in any area of management, with a particular interest in human resources. The course covers the compulsory knowledge base of essential human resource management units.

The course integrates theoretical concepts, research and examples of human resource management in practice. The course emphasises the strategic role of human resources and their contribution to organisational performance and examines key elements of human resource management.
Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution or an executive certificate offered by this faculty with an average grade of credit or above.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Management as to the 2003 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change. Applicants may be eligible for a maximum of four credit exemptions for units considered to be equivalent to particular units in the course of study. Credit is restricted to study completed in the last five years. The course director assesses credit exemptions.
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Human Resources, including successful studies in two 5000-level units from the Department of Management, will be able to articulate directly into one of the Department of Management's masters courses. To complete a masters course, students will be required to complete a further four masters-5000- level units.

Course structure

The course consists of three core units and five electives.
(a) Three core units:

(b) Five electives chosen from 9000-level graduate units taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics or other faculties of Monash University subject to course director approval
or
(c) Three electives chosen from 9000-level graduate units taught by the Department of Management, other departments in the Faculty of Business and Economics, or other faculties of Monash University, and two 5000- level graduate units taught by the Department of Management.
