Master of Multimedia


Course code: 3102 + Caulfield campus + One-and-a-half years full- time, three years part-time

This coursework masters degree prepares graduates from various undergraduate backgrounds for work within the multimedia industry. It provides students with the skills needed to function as professional multimedia developers and prepares them for careers in the management and development of multimedia applications.

Taught by the Faculty of Art and Design and the Faculty of Information Technology, the course covers studio work in systems and web development, digital imaging and design. This is backed up with units which tackle the legal, ethical and philosophical issues behind the multimedia revolution. The units are a blend of studio practice and lectures, with an emphasis placed on group work. Assessment is based on project work, written and verbal presentations, assignments and exams.
The course consists of 11 coursework units, with a total of 72 credit points:

Students also choose two electives (one level 4 and one level 5 elective) that support their chosen field of specialisation in consultation with the course coordinator. Units will generally be taken from those offered by the Faculty of Art and Design or the Faculty of Information Technology. Units from other faculties may also be taken, subject to approval.

Admission requirements

Applicants should hold a bachelors degree from Monash University or an equivalent qualification from another tertiary institute or university approved by the faculty.

Advanced standing

Up to 24 credit points may be granted for previously completed similar graduate-level units which have not been counted towards the award of any other degree or diploma. For similar undergraduate units, students will normally be required to make substitutions.

Exit points

Students enrol in the Master of Multimedia. The program can be exited after one or two semesters of full-time study or the equivalent. Students exiting after successfully completing one semester's study (24 credit points) take out the Graduate Certificate in Multimedia. Students exiting after successfully completing two semesters' study (48 points) take out the Graduate Diploma of Multimedia.
