French Studies 3/IIIA

6 points + 4 hours per week + First semester + Clayton + Prerequisites: FRN2320 or FRN2020 + Prohibitions: FRN1310, FRN2315

Synopsis: Students will develop their comprehension and analysis of communication in French in a variety of spoken and written discourses and registers as witnessed by a range of authentic audio-visual and print texts. They will practise and develop their oral skills through role-play and simulation and their writing skills through text transformation and production. They will develop factual knowledge of the historical, political, social and cultural issues informing French life and identity in the postwar decades, and make analytical and critical readings of representative texts, developing their expository and analytical oral and writing skills in this area.

Assessment: Oral production: 35% + Written grammar exercises (500 words in total): 15% + Written production (900 words): 30% + Written examination (2 hours): 20%
