Topics in advanced web page design and development

6 points + Peninsula + second and summer semesters + 4 hours per week + Prerequisites: CPE1001, CPE1003 plus a further 12 points of 2nd yr network computing studies.

Synopsis: Designing large-scale web sites: organisational frameworks, grouping content, using hierarchies and visual design. Dynamic page design with scripting. Principles of object oriented scripting. Scripting language structure and syntax, scripting events and using event handlers, creating objects and using built-in objects, objects and navigation. Applications for scripting in animation, data validation, data persistence, and user interaction. Synchronised and embedded multimedia with text, images, video and audio. Bandwidth consideration. XML: AML markup, elements and attributes, well-formedness, valid documents, DTDs, XML objects, styling XML with CSS, XSL.

Assessment: Project 40% + Examination (3 hours) 60%
