Synopsis: Introduction to networks. Structure and genealogy of the internet and the world wide web. Navigating the web. Informal retrieval. The client server paradigm. HTML: elements of web pages, formatting text, tables, frames and targeted windows, forms and style sheets. Text and image based hyperlinks. Graphics: formats and design. Audio and video formats. Brief introduction to client and server side scripting. Basic principles of web page design. Elements of visual design. Legal and ethical considerations of web-based applications.

Assessment: Practical work 40% + Examination 60%
