ATM3011Weather and climate phenomena(SCI)
Coordinator: Dr Steven Siems 6 points + Three 1-hour lectures and an average of one 1-hour support class per week and one 2-hour computer laboratory per fortnight + Clayton + First semester + Prerequisites: ATM2022 or ATM3022 or equivalent and MTH2010 + Prohibitions: ATM3121, ATM3162 or equivalent Synopsis: Moist thermodynamics, cloud microphysics (including development and precipitation), boundary layer dynamics, meso-scale convection and convective instability, the dynamics of mid-latitude cyclones, cyclogenesis and meteorological fronts, air pollution meteorology and modelling, meso-scale modelling, long-wave and short-wave radiative transfer. Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 50% + Assignments and tests: 25% + Laboratory work: 25% |
