Graduate Diploma of Midwifery


General information

The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery, offered by the School of Nursing, will enable nurses to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to gain endorsement by the Nurses Board of Victoria to practise as a midwife.
Applicants would normally have a degree in nursing or a related discipline; registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1 or eligible for registration); and at least one year of professional clinical experience. Special entry may be available.

Course structure

Students will be required to undertake six specialist units and/or an elective unit for a total of 48 credit points. Students may enrol full-time at the Peninsula campus and complete the course in one year. Alternatively, students may enrol part-time at the Gippsland campus and complete the course in two years. Units are scheduled in a manner that enables the students to undertake part-time employment.

Assessment includes examinations, case-studies, class presentations and written assignments.
