General information

This course offered through the Department of Psychology, offers graduates a 60-point major in psychology accredited by the Australian Psychological Society permitting them to undertake the further training needed to obtain professional qualifications. The course replaces enrolment in single psychology units. Students are normally expected to pass all units at a given year level before proceeding to the next year level. The minimum time for completion in this manner is three years. The course is offered via either on-campus or off-campus distributed learning, students wishing to accelerate their progress through this course should contact an adviser in the Department of Psychology. Students who do not pass any unit after two attempts will be liable for exclusion.
Entry will be open to graduates who have completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline. Selection will be based on academic merit, in particular, academic merit in the final year of study. Students with previous studies in psychology may be granted credit up to a maximum of the first two years of an undergraduate psychology major studied within the last 10 years and accredited by the Australian Psychological Society.

Course structure

The course structure is identical to the undergraduate major sequence in psychology, that is, nine core units and one elective unit.

Year three

• PSY3032 Abnormal psychology (6 points)
• PSY3051 Perception and personality (6 points)
• PSY3041 Psychological testing, theories of ability and ethics (6 points)
• PSY3062 Research methods and philosophy of psychology (6 points)

Elective unit

• PSY3071 Human neuropsychology and its evolutionary perspective (6 points)
• PSY3102 Advanced psychobiology: brain and behaviour (6 points)
