Course
code: 2630 Course abbreviation: BPharm/BCom The following describes the course
structure to be introduced in 2001 For details of the old structure, refer to
the 2000 university handbook
The following should be read in conjunction with the degree regulations of the
Bachelor of Pharmacy and the Bachelor of Commerce. The double-degree course of
Bachelor of Pharmacy/Bachelor of Commerce requires the equivalent of six years
of full-time study. The pharmacy component must be taken on a full-time basis
in the first four years on the Parkville campus. The commerce component,
offered on the Clayton campus, is equivalent to two years full-time study and
would normally be completed part-time. Students must complete the course in 11
years. Students must complete subjects to the value of a minimum of 294 credit
points subject to the following conditions:
(a) 192 points must be from the Faculty of Pharmacy, and must satisfy the
requirements for the Bachelor of Pharmacy.
(b) 102 points must be chosen from subjects offered by the Faculty of
Business and Economics (Clayton) and must include:
(i) Completion of the following compulsory subjects:
(ii) Completion of a major in
a discipline or field of study of the faculty. This requires students to
complete 48 points of study in a single discipline or field of study with at
least 12 points at each of second and third-year level. Disciplines are defined
by department prefixes and fields of study are those sets of related subjects
that may be defined in the catalogue of courses and subjects.
(iii) A maximum of eight first-year-level subjects (48 points). In order
to meet this requirement, students are able to undertake the second-year
versions of the appropriate number of compulsory subjects.
Students must have their program of study approved by the course coordinator or
the course coordinator's nominee prior to commencement of the relevant year.
This degree is recognised by both CPA Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia as meeting academic requirements for membership. This is also true for senior associate membership of the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance. It also meets the requirements of the Pharmacy Board of Victoria. For all professional bodies membership is dependent upon the correct choice of subjects by students.
