SON4021Sonographic abdominal imaging(MED)
Miss B McFarlane 6 points + Second semeter + Clayton + off campus distributed learning + 12 hours per week + Prerequisites:SON4000 Physics of Medical Ultrasound and Instrumentation and SON4010 Embryology, Anatomy and Pathophysiology, SON4020 Sonographic Professional Skills and Sonography of the Breast and Thyroid + Co-requisite:Satisfactory evidence of the equivalent of 3 days a week spent performing relevant clinical ultrasound examinations Synopsis: Sonographic scanning methods and standard protocols related to examinations of adult liver, gallbladder, biliary system, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, urinary system, spleen, retroperitoneum, abdominal wall, related vascular structures. The scientific principles underpinning tissue harmonic imaging and use of contrast agents in abdominal sonography. Interpretational skills in respect to recognition of sonographic appearances of normal anatomy, anatomical variants, disease processes and ability to modify standard sonographic approaches with regards to the clinical question and patient presentation. Assessment: Compulsory attainment of a requisite number of sonographic abdominal examinations + Three clinical case studies: 15% + One written examination (2 hours): 35% + Image recognition examination: 25% + Two clinical skills' assessments: 25% |
