P Darke, C Gonsalvez 6 points + 3 hours per week + First, second semester + Caulfield + Prohibitions: CFR1120, CFR1123, GCO2601, GCO2852, SYS1001, IMS1001, BUS1021, CFR1001, CFR1129, CFR1305, GCO1813, SYS2761, SYS115 Synopsis: The subject examines and discusses the following topics: the concept of the system and its application to management of organisational information; the process of information systems development; the roles played and skills needed by professionals in that process; the techniques used by systems analysts, emphasising the concept of abstraction and its application in process modelling as DFDs; techniques of information elicitation for problem appreciation and analysis; types of information systems and their application to business problems; systems analysis as a social process; the need for high-level interpersonal communication skills, and knowledge of presentation techniques.
