The Graduate Diploma of Education (Professional Development Studies) is a
flexible program designed to allow professional educators to upgrade their
qualifications. It will provide three-year-trained teachers with their fourth
year of tertiary study.
Admission to this course will be open to applicants who possess a degree or diploma and who are qualified educators or who have suitably acceptable experience in a related field.
The
course comprises 48 points of study. These points are normally completed by
students undertaking eight six-point subjects. There are several recommended
pathways through this program that applicants can choose from:
1. A number of off-campus and other subjects from the distance education
handbook, to make up a tailored selection of subjects totalling 48 points. The
handbook is available from the Centre for Learning and Teaching Support
(CeLTS), Gippsland campus, freecall 1800 671 845.
2. A combination of off-campus and internal subjects.
3. A combination of off-campus subjects plus a selection of specially
contracted subjects.
4. A selection of internal subjects.
All subject choices will be contingent upon prerequisites which are stated in
the ´Subjects' section at the back of this handbook.
It should be noted that professional development pathways may be contracted by
educators in industry or professionals other than school teachers.
Confirmation of subject availability in the following year will be available in
September each year. To confirm subject availability, contact your local
campus: (03) 9905 2819 (Clayton), (03) 9904 4291
(Peninsula), or (03) 9902 6969 (Gippsland), or visit our website at
http://www.education.monash.edu.au/ courses.htm after 30 September.
The Graduate Diploma of Education (Professional Development Studies) course is equivalent to one year of full-time study and is normally completed over two years part-time. Study modes will vary according to the needs of program components and may include, for example, a variety of forms of distance education; lectures, seminars, workshops or tutorials at a nominated centre; tele-conferences or video conferences; residential schools, research and/or development; and direct experience through innovation. The expected number of hours per week for a part-time student is 24.
