This masters degree is designed for students with a degree in a field other than accounting who wish to obtain a sound introduction to accounting concepts and procedures and is suitable for those who wish to work in public practice, industry or academia.
The course, which is recognised by the professional accounting bodies of the CPA Australia (formerly known as the ASCPA) and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, enables graduates to affiliate with the professional body of their choice.
The course will encompass studies in financial and managerial accounting, taxation, business law, auditing and electives chosen from subjects offered in the Master of Business (Accounting).
Applicants require a pass degree in a non-accounting discipline or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of 12 credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study (for students who have completed the Monash University Graduate Diploma in Accounting program). Refer to the course director for further details.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Accounting and Finance as to the 2001 course fees. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
Completion of this course will enable graduates to meet the academic requirements for admission to the CPA Australia program and the Professional Year program of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
Students who successfully complete the Master of Practising Accounting with an average grade of credit or above may apply for admission to the Master of Business (Accounting).

The course consists of 12 core subjects and four elective subjects.

Four electives shall be chosen from Bachelor of Business (Accounting) (Honours); Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Accounting; Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management; Master of Business (Accounting); Master of Banking; Master of Business (Banking and Finance) or the accounting and finance specialisation within the Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce or the Postgraduate Diploma in Economics.
