Course code: To be advised · The following describes the new course structure, to be introduced for the first time in 2000
All
first, second and third-year subjects offered by the Faculty of Business and
Economics have a credit value of six points. Full-time students are expected to
progress at the rate of eight subjects or 48 credit points per year. First-year
students normally may not take a second-year subject until at least four
first-year subjects have been completed successfully. It should be noted that
subjects in the later years of the course have prerequisites and corequisites.
In addition, students are expected to take subjects in a yearly sequence even
if there are no prerequisite subjects specified. Specialisations are available
in accounting, finance, economics, business law and taxation, econometrics and
business statistics, marketing and management.
Students are required to complete the following compulsory subjects:
Students intending to
qualify for membership of a professional accounting body (as defined by
students who complete either AFC3120 or AFC3160) may omit either
ETC1010/ETC2010 or MGC1020/MGC2020. However, it is strongly advised that the
faculty considers it desirable that even those seeking such membership would
benefit from completing both of the above subjects. Students wishing to take
first-year subjects other than those on the above list are able to undertake
the second-year versions of the appropriate number of compulsory subjects. This
allows students to complete substantial work in related fields such as
languages, computing, psychology, or mathematics.
The following are requirements of the course:
Students must have
their program of study approved by the course director or the course director's
nominee prior to commencement of the relevant year.
*SUBJECT TO FINAL UNIVERSITY APPROVAL.
