Synopsis: A study of the different types of novels written in Spain from 1940 until the present day. Starting with Camilo José Cela and his La colmena, the course treats the social and artistic conditions of Spain under the Francoist dictatorship and the democratic system of the 1980s and 1990s. The last part of the course explores feminist discourse in contemporary Spanish narrative through the study of works by Adelaida García Morales and Almodena Grandes.

Assessment: Two Take-home Exams (20% each): 40% + Reading controls 20% + Final Essay: 40%
