Synopsis: How organisations operate, the context in which they operate, and the factors which determine how managers can operate more effectively. Topics include the management function; the genesis of modern management; the development of management theory; the context in which managers operate; and managing organisations.

Assessment: Written (assignments 1000 words and 2000 words): 10% and 20% + Tutorial participation and preparation 10% + Examination (2 hours): 60%
