Synopsis: Theories of race and issues of ethnicity, prejudice and racism, emphasising language use in a multicultural context. The uses of opinion polls. The representation of Aborigines in the media and other forms of popular culture. Multiculturalism and Aborigines. Land rights, native title and racism.
Assessment: Research essay (3000 words): 45% + Seminar paper (2000 words): 25% + Class test (1 hour): 20% + Attendance and participation: 10%
