Synopsis: The status and power of women in diffrerent political systems and social and historical circumstances. The capacities of women to influence the economic, social and political structures, mechanisms and visions of their contexts. Themes include legal status, access to and representation within judicial process, economic/employment status and opportunities, respect, power, independence, freedom, and gender definition and delineation with cultural roles.

Assessment: Tutorial paper (1500 words): 20% + Work in progress report (1500 words): 30% + Research essay (3000 words): 50%
