Synopsis: Review of heat and mass transfer mechanisms; correlations of film heat and mass transfer coefficients; overall heat transfer coefficients; concept of equilibrium stage; analytical and graphical methods of solving selected mass transfer unit operations, totally immiscible systems, gas absorption. Types of heat exchanger including heat transfer to a jacketed vessel, vessel with heated coil, double-pipe and shell and tube heat exchanger.
Assessment: Examination: 80% + Class tests: 20%
