Synopsis: The subject focuses on the development of ancient Israel in the ancient Near East in the late Bronze and Iron Ages. It involves a study of the historical framework within which ancient Israel was formed.It is recommended that candidates enrolling in this subject should have completed successfully ARY2990, those who have not should consult Dr Bowen and be prepared to undertake preparatory study. Archaeological and inscriptional material will be studied.

Assessment: Tutorial paper (1500 words): 25% + Essay (3000 words): 40% + Examination (2 hours): 35%
