Synopsis: A theoretical framework to complement the experiential learning in APA1301. Fundamental glass design principles and the behaviour of glass. Different forms of glass, including hot blown, kiln-formed and architectural glass are examined and discussed. Weekly lectures followed by laboratory-based experimental/research assignments introduce materials, equipment and processes.

Assessment: Examination: 50% + Assigned research projects: 50%
