Course
code: 2344 · Course director: Dr Gennadi Kazakevitch · Offered by
distance education from the School of Business and Electronic Commerce,
Gippsland campus · Normally completed in four semesters of part-time
study
The course has been designed for graduates from non-economics disciplines who
wish to gain a formal qualification in applied economic studies. Alternatively,
students may hold a degree in commerce or business during which they completed
only the equivalent of first-year economics or which is of no more than 10
years standing. The course will target local and international students who are
unable to study full-time or who do not have access to a university campus for
campus-based part-time study.
Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised
tertiary institution or an executive certificate from this faculty with an
average grade of credit or above. Credits and exemptions may be granted for
maximum of four subjects of relevant partially completed graduate studies. The
merit of applications for credits and exemptions will be determined on a
case-by-case basis. It is essential that subjects submitted for credit or
exemption fit the philosophy and principles of this graduate course of study.
Subjects studied more than five years ago are regarded as beyond a reasonable
time limit for applicability and therefore not acceptable for
credit/exemption.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the School of Business
and Electronic Commerce as to the 2000 course fee. Course fees are set and
reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
Students will be required to complete three core subjects and five electives.
Students may select any combination of elective subjects, however the following streams are recommended:

The list of
elective subjects may be extended to include existing undergraduate economics
subjects offered at the second and third-year levels on other campuses. Such
subjects would be adapted for accelerated learning by distance education.
Students will also have the opportunity to select up to two elective subjects
from another faculty. Such subjects will complement the chosen area of
specialisation and will also be adapted for accelerated learning by distance
education.
