The Graduate Certificate in Human Resources is designed primarily for graduates from a range of disciplines who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in the area of managing employment relations, including human resource management and industrial relations.
Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. Applicants without a first degree who have a minimum of six years appropriate employment experience should refer to the section on executive certificates. Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of two credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. Refer to the course director for further details.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the School of Business and Electronic Commerce as to the 2000 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Human Resources may apply for admission to either the Graduate Diploma in Human Resources or the Graduate Diploma of Business (Management).

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resources consists of four subjects normally taken over two semesters of study. Students select their study program from the following subjects:

· MGG9370 Management theory and practice (first semester)
· MGG9324 Human resource management (second semester)
· MGG9325 Human resource development (second semester)
· MGG9323 Industrial relations (first semester)
· ECG9170 Issues in labour economics (second semester)
· BTG9241 Employment law (second semester)
· MGG9346 Employment relations policy and practice (first semester)
· MGG9350 Strategic human resource management (first semester)
· MGG9351 Contemporary issues in employment relations (second semester)
· MGG9303 Organisational behaviour (first semester)
· MGG9320 Organisational change and development (first semester)

Note that some of the above subjects require prior completion of a prerequisite subject.
Additionally, students may select, with the approval of the course director, any other graduate-level subject that satisfies the objectives and standards of this course.
Note that students considering articulation into the Graduate Diploma in Human Resources should undertake the first-year subjects specified for that course.
