Engineering maintenance management has tremendous opportunity for improvement, and much scope for contributing significantly to an organisation's profitability. Since 1985, hundreds of engineers, managers and senior technical people, from many industries around Australia and overseas, have increased their capability by completing Monash University courses in maintenance management.
The course satisfies the continuing education requirements of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
Admission
to the graduate diploma course is open to applicants who are eligible for
graduate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, or hold another
degree acceptable to the Monash University Faculty of Engineering.
Applicants without the above qualifications may apply for the graduate
certificate course. If passed with average grades of 65 per cent or better,
they may articulate into the graduate diploma.
Applicants must supply a letter from their employer showing awareness of the
course requirements and commitments expected of the student. This requirement
may be waived where the applicant is self-employed, or in other exceptional
circumstances, provided the applicant can provide assurances about their
ability to meet the time commitment of the program, and in respect to access to
practical situations as required for the completion of field projects and
research.
Applicants must also supply legally certified copies of their qualifications
with their application.
Students before proceeding to subject GEG7074 (Computer applications in terotechnology) should have at least an introductory level of computer literacy. Access to a computer running Windows 95 is requested, with 16 Mb RAM, 30 Mb hard disk space and CD drive.
Attendance at residential schools in year one (July 2000) and year two (September 2001) is compulsory. Registration forms and programs will be forwarded to students approximately six weeks prior to the residential schools. On-campus student accommodation is available at low prices. (Unlike for many other subjects, there are no weekend schools in these courses).
The course consists of the eight subjects listed below normally taking two years of distance education study to complete.
Some individual subjects can be studied alone as 'non-award'. No residential attendance is required and anybody interested is invited to enrol. These are available only on fee-paying basis, and no supportive documents are required with application.
Assessment varies between subjects and is a mixture of assignments and examination. Most examinations are run in November and are arranged to take place near student home locations anywhere in the world. Assignments can be submitted by post, or fax, or by email where appropriate and available.
All students will be required to complete forty-eight credit points to qualify for the graduate diploma. Credits may be allowed for students who have completed or partially completed a similar course.

Completed applications are to be forwarded to the administrative officer, Gippsland School of Engineering, Monash University Gippsland campus, Churchill, Victoria, 3842, by 24 September 1999 to be considered for a first-round offer. Later applications will be considered.
The Master of Engineering Maintenance Management extends the work undertaken in the graduate diploma program. Credits can be negotiated for studies in the graduate diploma which have been completed to an approved standard.
