Objectives On completion of the subject students should be able to make queries using SQL; design and implement a relational database; and write application programs for a database in the INGRES environment.

Synopsis This subject provides a detailed introduction to the principles of database systems and their organisation and management. The problems of logical data description, organisation and manipulation are addressed. Various data models, query languages, and issues of integrity and security are introduced.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 80% - Assignments 20%
