Objectives This subject focuses on three main objectives: to familiarise the students with the multimedia industry and multimedia applications in practice; to give the students practical experience of the multimedia systems development working environment; and to give the students the opportunity to practise using information technology tools in project work involving the development of multimedia products and system components.
Synopsis Students will undertake a mixture of formal lectures and seminars, tutorials and laboratory sessions, demonstrations and studio work. Lectures, tutorials and seminars will deal mainly with the first of the subject objectives, while the laboratory and studio sessions will be concerned mainly with the last two. Students will be required to undertake project development work, both by themselves and in groups. The projects will aim to give them practice in identifying multimedia opportunities and specifying product and system requirements, and in building multimedia products and system components. Project work will be carried out under the supervision of a member of academic staff, and wherever possible the projects will be drawn from real life clients.
Assessment Examination: 20% - Assignments and project work: 80%
