Objectives At the completion of this subject students will: know the basic concepts and components of information technology - hardware, software and communications; understand the capabilities and limitations of information technology components of multimedia systems; be able to operate the hardware and software commonly found on a multimedia desktop; and recognise the strengths and weaknesses of information technology in the context of the development and use of multimedia systems

Synopsis This subject will provide an introduction to the capabilities of the basic technology tools available to multimedia system developers. It will explain the basic concepts of information technology, and examine common hardware and software tools. Although the emphasis will be on general information technology concepts, the subject will also give students an introduction to some of the specialist hardware and software used in the development of multimedia products and systems. It will focus on the application of the tools in practice, rather than on the technology itself.

Assessment Examination: 60% - Assignments: 40%
