CSE2111

Electronics for digital systems

N Bhattacharjee

6 points - Two 1-hour lectures, one 1-hour tutorial and one 2-hour practical class per week - First semester - Clayton - Prerequisites: CSE1112 or DGS1230 and MAT1812 or equivalent

Objectives At the completion of this subject, students will be able to design signal conditioning circuits for digital systems, design clock generation and regeneration systems, design converters between the analogue and digital domains, deal appropriately with noise, EMI and crosstalks, understand the fundamental concepts of optoelectronics, modulation and demodulation techniques and feedback control systems.

Synopsis In this subject, a continuation of DGS1230/CSE1112, students are introduced to signal conditioning and conversion techniques between the analogue and digital domains. The syllabus includes: analysis and design of signal amplitude/frequency conditioning using operational amplifiers and other devices. Clock generation/regeneration techniques ADC and DAC analysis and application optoelectronics and sensors. Introduction to modulation/demodulation techniques in communication systems. Introduction to proportional, integral and derivative control systems. Application of CAD tools for the analysis and design of signal conditioning circuits. In addition, in the laboratory classes, students will carry out theoretical and practical analysis of the behaviour of electronic analogue and digital circuits.

Assessment Examination(2 hours): 60% - Assignment and practical work: 40%
